Paralympics Opening Cauldron Ceremony in Cardiff Wales

This morning, opposite the Cardiff city hall where the Paralympics logo 2012 is, it was lit the cauldron by Paralympian cyclist Simon Richardson. This follows on since last Wednesday when at the summit on a very cold Snowdown mountain a group of scouts kindled the Paralympics 2012 flame.

Mr Richardson stated: "It's just great to light the flame in my capital city of my country of Wales...I would have preferred to have been competing but this is the next best thing. It was such a shock to get the phone call asking me to do this." source BBC Wales.  Also present at the cauldron ceremony were the Cardiff Celts wheelchair basketball team.

Following this flame opening ceremony, the flame is visiting various locations in the city including disability sports activities. Towards the end of the day, it will culminate with a torch relay and a festival at Cardiff Bay.
