Swansea Possible New Urban Sustainable Village Development

We understand that it has been proposed a feasibility development study in order to create a sustainable urban village in Felindre (at the former British Steel tinplate works), on a site owned by the Welsh Government. As a result, it is anticipated that his new project will create many jobs in the area.

The intended development includes general housing building, community buildings such as schools and public spaces. At this stage, the Welsh Government has simply approved for research to be conducted along with research funding. Later, the project will follow its course to be formally presented to the City and County of Swansea’s Local Development Plan (LDP).

The Business Minister Edwina Hart, stated ""The LDP identified Felindre as a potential strategic future growth area for employment and residential mixed uses,"...The feasibility study into proposals for a new sustainable urban village will outline broad land uses for the site. The information from the study is needed to help inform any future decision and is a vital piece of work to take these proposals to the next stage."

This new development initiative, follows on the announcement earlier this year where an urban village is to be created in Cardiff at the former Arjo Wiggins paper mill at Ely Bridge.
